We’re excited to share a quick update on BOB, our low-cost, autonomous water monitoring buoy.
Over the past few months, we’ve focused on improving BOB’s power system to support more reliable, longer-term deployments. After integrating key upgrades—including enhanced energy management and optimized firmware—we deployed BOB in a local pond to test its performance under real-world conditions.
âś… Power System Performing Well
We’re happy to report that the updated power system has responded positively. BOB has remained operational for over three weeks, continuously collecting and transmitting data. This is a significant improvement over previous tests and demonstrates the effectiveness of the new power setup.
🌦 Weathering the Weather
During the deployment, BOB experienced variable weather, including both sunny and cloudy days and a surprise night of thunderstorms. Despite these fluctuations, the system maintained stable operation—further evidence of its improved resilience and power efficiency.
📊 Live Data Available
You can view BOB’s real-time data—including temperature, salinity, and GPS tracking—on our Data Monitoring Page. The data collected so far is promising and will help guide future development and larger-scale deployments.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue refining BOB and preparing for open-ocean trials.
